daily cares

This week-end we wallowed in bounty. Caramel sugar highs, a late card game with friends, a chicken coop built with neighbors (I'll post pics soon), homemade applesauce canned and happily lined up on pantry shelves, a messy children's closet cleaned out and reorganized. I am thankful.

And yet, this coming election has me burdened more than any before. I lament over our broken nation and an increasing division amongst the Church. I battle fear for my children's future, for our collective rights as parents, citizens and human beings. My heart churns for babies unborn and their knowing mothers. I wonder how I can be salt and light, bringing healing in Jesus name. In the midst of it all, I am gently reminded to repent of my own sin. Relieved, I cast my cares on the One who does not change like shifting trends. For,

"All men are like grass and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall. But the Word of the Lord stands forever." 1 Peter 1:24&25

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... how fitting a reminder. this has been a week of trepidous discussion with the little sacketts, and reminders of Sovereignty. thank you for your feedback on photos... that shoot was a challenge as my camera is on the fritz (took it in today - i feel naked!!) and i had to shoot all on auto. the family is wonderful, though, and that made it so sweet a time. you shooting lately? where are those campground photos, girl?!

I love the picture and what you have to say. It is on the minds and hearts of many. Mom

The applesauce looks a lot like mine - the pinky beige color to the thick texture. What's your recipe? Mine is a French country recipe, a mixture of Joy of Cooking and the Yellow Farmhouse cookbook. Mmmmm, wish I could have some warm RIGHT NOW!! Miss you, my friend!

Dude, why are you so awesome? Love the picture. ♥

I'm leaving you this comment just as CNN announced that Barack Obama is the new president of the United States. I'm...speechless. And not from anger, or fear or sadness. Nope. It's trepidation. I know he has the best interests of the country at heart, and I know that he's going to do things in the way that he thinks is right. Still, there's reasons I didn't vote for him, and I stick to those. I don't want my wallet lighter. I don't want socialized medicine. I don't want to wait to change abortion laws. (The only thing he really has going for him in my book is the gay marriage thing, but you know that already.)
I don't agree with many of his policies, but I'm so proud of our country for voting an African American into office. I've been taught my whole life that race doesn't matter, but I guess it matters enough for hordes of people to be sobbing with joy on my TV screen. And I'm happy for them.

Genevieve, I kind of made up my own recipe to taste but since I have both cookbooks you mentioned I think I'll try your version next time! We got a box of apples from our co-op so I decided to give it a shot and everyone is pleased :). I have been praying consciously and sub-consciously for you (You are always on my heart, dear friend.). Karla mentioned that she too has been following your blog and praying much for you. I hate, HATE that I can't be with you. Hate it.Anyway, I love you and miss you!

Emily,

Congrats on your FIRST voting experience! I took the girls to the polls with me today and gave the good ol', "It's such a privilege to vote," speech. They were very cute and surprisingly interested. Your mom would have been proud. :)

Ang, I know how you feel about parting with your camera! It's funny how it becomes an appendage! The whole camp picture thing is a bit complicated by lack of individual releases. Of course, the camp can use them for their marketing and I can use them for my own promotional purposes but I have to be careful about posting them on a blog. I will feel a little safer posting them on a website in my portfolio section, which we are working on. Yes, I'm always shooting for myself and have taken a bit of a break after the wedding I shot. I have some families to shoot this month and another wedding scheduled at the beginning of the year, which I am excited about. I have thoroughly enjoyed photographing the past two weddings but have realized just how time consuming the post processing is! Whew!
