We suspected from day one that this bossy chick was a rooster, but his teen-age, strangled crow has confirmed it! Although we told the kids that any rooster would make a nice chicken fricasse, well....who has the heart (or doesn't as the case may be)....NOT I!

Did my mom tell you that the cows owned by my grandparents (and there were many, although usually 1 or 2 at a time) were called Bossy? :)

Love your pictures. I'm very glad that your MIL introduced me to your blog. We'll be praying for the adoption.
Amy,
Genevieve is right--I am a chicken lover. Although roosters do fry up very nicely!
One time a friend came over and I gave him and his boys 6 nice hens to refresh his flock. We picked out 6 nice girls and avoided the few roosters that were around. Two weeks later this friend asked me about my "hens" crowing. Evidently, one of these "hens" was a rooster in stealth mode. Once he/she(?) got away from the alpha males he started to develop!
Hope your girls love the birds.
